Late start at 11:30 a.m. I began my hike with gator in a light rain. The trees kept the rain from getting to us. We were expecting it to storm all day but it only lasted an hour or two. Plus we seemed like we were above the clouds and the storm.
We finally made it to Pine Swamp Branch Shelter. The sun was coming out and we completed 11 AT miles by 3:30 p.m. Gator is freakin fast!
Gator and I were trying to do another 20 miles but our bodies were a little worn. He was pleased with the day and only wanted to go 1.7 miles further to Captains.
Another amazing place and person. I really hope to meet him tomorrow and only saw em from a distance today. Our entrance was a zip line across the stream/river. I doubt there will be another entrance and exit like that for the rest of the trail. He posted rules which were legit. One being if you have a gun I don't want to see it. No shuttles and if his doors are shut don't knock. Free unlimited sodas on the back porch. Not to mention a wide variety! Free wifi, free charge station and free camping. A very kind hearted man!
I caught my first trout not to mention I hooked two! They were about 14 inches and were rainbow trout. I threw them back because I didn't want to take a nice man's fish. I missed several good bites and probably a nice big one!
Bed at 11 p.m. and blessed to experience so much generosity of the trail! It's truly magical!
A funny experience. The young boy beaver from the Canadian family doing the documentary said I had a cute knife. I have a small knife with a two inch blade. I said jokingly... boy don't ever tell a man he has a cute knife lol. I told him two inches were all ya needed and of course a lady in the group said I would beg to differ :)! I got joked on over my knife but it was good times! Btw my knife takes care of business and does it's job!
I think this was chicken of the woods. Unsure though. Ghandalf told us that most mushrooms on trees are edile. However, I will not take my chances on mushrooms.
Captain messing with us on the AT.
Rules and captain.
First trout of my trip. Nice rainbow.
Second trout.
Nice stream for trout fishing at captains.
Soda pop.
Sign in sheet for party two weeks after Damascus Trail Days. I heard the food and event was splendid.
Fire put some hikers made at captains.
Tent and hammock spots.
Zip line. Wish I could show the video of gator on the zip line.
